Cutting Edge was proud to support local pub The Harrington Arms, Sawley recently as they embarked on a challenge to cycle 1000 miles in three days as part of Greene King's 'Around the World in 80 Pubs' campaign.
In total the staff, local drinkers and volunteers at 'the H' smashed their target, cycling 1257 miles, raising £2300 which was both the highest amount and also the highest number of miles of all the Greene King pubs taking part.
We even managed to pedal a few miles ourselves!

A big Thank You: Our latest charitable donation
It's nice to know that right now, somewhere in our local hospitals, a patient is experiencing earlier diagnosis, improved treatment or benefitting from a service not ordinarily available, in more comfortable, enhanced surroundings thanks to us. We couldn't do this without our valued customers, and for this we would like to say a big Thank You!

Wink to take over FST and invest in 'Centre of Excellence' for cylinders.
We are pleased to announce that Wink will be taking over Form und Stanztechnik (FST), Simmerath, Germany on 1st November 2014. Wink will be making ongoing investments in the Simmerath site, transforming it into a 'Centre of Excellence' for the development and production of cylinders and rotary die cutting solutions.
Following Wink's successful expansion of their flexible die production, the focus now switches to further develop the cylinder departments and continue the strategy for international growth. FST provides the ideal addition - both in terms of technology and staff. FST was established in 1988 as an owner operated company and manufactures high precision rotary die cutters and high performance peripherals for the label and packaging industries. Their product portfolio includes, amongst other things, solid rotary dies, magnetic cylinders, print cylinders and hot stamping cylinders, as well as die cutting stations.
For our customers, the takeover and pooling of expertise will offer a whole host of benefits and an even wider range of products from a single source. The capacity expansion and increased process efficiency will result in even faster lead times and further optimising of quality. Furthermore, the combined decades of experience of both companies will also offer new possibilities in the development of customised designs and special die cutting solutions.

As usual for Christmas, Cutting Edge will make a donation to charity rather than sending cards and gifts.
This year, we are supporting our friend Rachel who is embarking on 7 months of fundraising for East African Playgrounds, culminating in a trip to Uganda in July, where
she will work alongside the local community to help develop a playground for a local school.
EAP is a small charity committed to changing the lives of young people across East Africa by developing their learning opportunities and environments. We are excited to be helping Rachel in her
efforts.
For more information see Rachel's
story and East African Playgrounds.

Wink has enhanced its production area by 1,400 sqm and has installed new machines to meet the growing demand for Wink's die-cutting tools. At the same time, all workflows and technologies have been optimized to produce highest quality tools even more efficiently.
Craftsmen, machine suppliers, and Wink employees have been working very hard during the last months, so that the new production can go fully live just before Christmas. This has been a challenge for all involved partners, because the existing machinery had to continue running all the time during the constructions works.
The most important measures at a glance:
Moreover, a new etching machine will be installed shortly.
"We have always been producing on the highest quality level. This expansion and modernization enables to meet the continuously increasing requirements on our
international markets", explained Alan de Natris, Managing Director.
On behalf of the whole company, he thanked all involved partners for their excellent work. "Special thanks go to all our customers, who supported us during this very challenging time."

Wink Stanzwerkzeuge has officially introduced its ProMount aligning tool for flexible dies in the market. The ProMount aligning ruler is available for all common narrow web machines and facilitates the mounting process. With just a few steps, ProMount flexible dies can be perfectly aligned on the magnetic cylinder at first go. The system provides more comfort and safety for the operator during retooling processes, and moreover it helps to optimize die-cutting results and to save time and money.
Easy and accurate positioning of flexible dies
High precision is crucial for success with all label applications. However, it is particularly important for converting products that need perfect line alignments and rectangularity, for example blank label sheets. Despite of special markings on the magnetic cylinders, even experienced operators sometimes find it problematic to perfectly mount the flexible die at first go. While the alignment is already difficult for smaller sizes, it becomes even more challenging the greater the working width and size of dies. Quite often, flexible dies need to be taken off several times and re-positioned to achieve a satisfying fitting accuracy on the cylinder. This extra effort quickly accumulates to a con-siderable number of hours, which grows with the number of machines and job changes.
ProMount saves time and money
This is where the Wink ProMount system comes into play. With this tool, the perfect installation of flexible dies is made easily and quickly. The tool not only makes job changes more convenient, it also results in increased productivity and cost savings. The very compact and yet robust design guarantees a high lifetime of the ProMount ruler. ProMount is available in seven standard types (PM 1 to 7), with each type optimized for specific machine types and working widths. Each ruler is best suited for cylinder circumferences from 65 to 204 teeth (1/8'' cp), so that a broad range of applications is covered. Special individual sizes can be produced on request.
